It's not even Saturday yet...

...and already the BCS is turned on its head again.  Iowa State stunned No. 2 Oklahoma State 37-31 in double OT and knocked the Cowboys from the ranks of the unbeaten.  It was the biggest late-season loss by a top two team since Pitt decked West Virginia in 2007.  That year, No. 1 and No. 2 both lost on each of the last two weeks of the season.  That Pitt team's defense was lead by coordinator Paul Rhoads, now the Cyclones coach.

Now, if LSU wins out, it will surely face a one-loss team, and today, it's a little more likely that team will be one it already defeated.

Alabama and Oregon are the next two teams in line in the BCS standings, and assuming both win today, you'll probably see Alabama at No. 2 this week, but it's not a given they'll stay there.  Voters like conference champions, and as things stand now, Alabama isn't going to win the SEC, but nobody else has won a conference championship yet either.

On the last day of 2006, Florida jumped Michigan after it won the SEC title.  On the last day of 2011, Alabama could get jumped by Oregon because it wins the Pac-12 title.  Or maybe even the Bedlam winner.  Or, maybe Georgia, even with its two losses.

Oh, you don't think that Georgia can make that move?  In 2007, LSU jumped from seventh to second on the final day of the season after winning the SEC championship over Tennessee.  They moved past the former No. 1 and No. 2 teams, both of which lost, the No. 6 team, Virginia Tech, which won the ACC that day, and No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Kansas, neither of which played in their conference title games.  One difference though is that LSU ended with the best record of any SEC team that year.

The point is that unless something changes, Alabama is not playing football the last weekend of the season, and that can hurt them.

And everything I just wrote could get blown up before the ink dries because Saturday hasn't even happened yet.  Gotta love the BCS.

LSWhodabest?

Who did LSU last lose too?  Who put the LSU Tigers out of the last BCS games?  Who has beat LSU 3 out 4 of the last Years?  What was the last team to beat LSU when they were ranked #1?

Let me give you a hint?  Where is the Boot Trophy at right now?  Not enough what determines who gets the Boot Trophy? Answer: Every year at the end of the season, the winner of LSU and Arkansas get the Trophy.

Good things Razorback fans are all focused on MSU today or I would say what I really feel.  In the meantime, yall just keep on winning, we will go to Baton Rouge next week.  To bad the nation not recognizing...

WPS!!!!
Your post shows that the last thing on the mind of Arkansas today is Mississippi State, and that will bite you guys today - watch.

I was watching but nothing happen other than a Hogs rout of MSU Bull Dogs.  The time is now, pure and simple.  Hogs beat LSWho, we are in NC game.!!!!

"The current 3rd place team got man handled by #1 LSU."  You must have watched a different game than I did. What I saw was Oregon beating themselves - 4 turnovers. If not for those turnovers, Oregon is sitting undefeated and number one. Take a look at the statistics: Oregon ran 82 plays for 335 yards (4.1yds/play), LSU ran 70 plays for 273 yards (3.9yds/play). That is not man handling. Also remember that two of the fumbles were by true freshman De'Anthony Thomas in his very first game without any spring ball. It is doubtful that the same would happen again in a rematch.

On the flip side, 'Bama lost in their ninth game of the season when they should be peaking. At that point in the season missing field goals is not indicative of a top team. Further, 'Bama had fewer yards in the game than LSU 58 plays for 239 (4.1yds/play) yards vs 60 plays and 295 yards (4.9yds/play).

If you want to say that 'Bama has a better defense than Oregon, then why did 'Bama give up more yards on fewer plays AND more yards per play?

I don't have a team in this hunt. I am just trying to be very objective in the analysis. The outside observer looking at those numbers (and watched both games) says that 'Bama did not perform better overall than Oregon against the common opponent. Also take in the fact that 'Bama played at home (and that is supposed to be a 3 point advantage) whereas Oregon played on a neutral field in front of a distinctly LSU crowd.

P.I.G. Hog fans  sound like Auburn fans...we beat ya'll seven out of the last eleven years...well that talk ceased a few weeks ago, as will yours next week.  WE...that being EL-ES-YOU have TWO NC since 2003 and multiple SEC Championships. Also, if you want to talk history how about 34-20...that is our all time record...we goy 34.

What do you fools got...NOTHIN!!!! You ran from Texas, let Oklahoma and Nebraska scare you away from the Big 8, so we were cursed with your ham.  As a matter of fact, my logic for NOT letting aTm in the SEC was we already had aTm...they are called Arkansas. You ALWAYS think you are better than you are, but the University of P.I.G. hasn't been relevant since Kennedy was President. Which makes you slightly better than aTm whose last NC was 1939.

See you next Friday...don't be late.

Oregon lost in Week 1 because they were sloppy and turned the ball over on kick off returns, muffed punts, and missed hand offs.
Alabama lost in Week 10 of the season because they had no offense.

LSU60...are you saying that you would rather play a team that LSU has not already beaten than the best team available?  Even if that team is not in the BCS top 4 or 5.  I get that no one wants to play a team that they have already beaten and close at that, but the BCS is what it is.  Is there a doubt that LSU can pull off victories again against Alabama or Oregon?

Obviously LSU just pretends that arkansas hasn't beaten them 3 of the last 4 years. Very possible it will be 4 of the last 5. Last time we beat LSU in Baton Rouge you were #1 in the nation and we were given no chance.  It will be a good game as they always are.  Yes we lost to bama 38-14 not 38-7. A loss is a loss, but I believe we would play a much better game.  Keep in mind LSU should have lost the game against bama as well. If they could have kicked any kind of FG you would be sitting with the one loss instead of bama. Then again that is why they play. LSU has played a great season and deserves to be #1, but dont start declaring a victory when they havent even played yet.
