Readers are great.  Many have pointed out that Davidson won at the Sprint Center, not at the Phog.  Also, that Michigan St lost to UNC by 35 in 2008 to UNC before losing to the Heels again in the title game that season (by a more respectible 17 points).

One of last week's four number one seeds went down this week, but remains on the top line in my latest bracket.  Baylor picked up its first loss of the season at Kansas, but still has a strong enough profile to merit a one-seed.  It's not like there's a lot of shame in losing at Phog Allen.  If you had to win there to be a No. 1, we wouldn't have any.  Well, except Davidson.

Indiana, Michigan State and North Carolina all had difficult weeks.  Both the Hoosiers and Spartans lost twice.  Minnesota took down IU in Bloomington, something Kentucky and Ohio State failed to do, which bolstered the Gophers precarious spot in the bracket.  The Buckeyes got their revenge on Indiana on Sunday.  Sparty lost to Northwestern and Michigan.

That shuffling leaves Illinois on top of the league standings for now.  The Big Ten continues to dominate the RPI and the bracket, with a whopping nine teams in the field this week.  Even placing eight teams in the final bracket in March would be remarkable.  However, as the teams at the top beat each other up, you have to wonder if any team will create enough separation to stay in contention for a top seed at the end.

Last week, I got a lot of grief for having Duke ahead of North Carolina on the bracket, although that was before the 33-point pounding the Heels took at Florida State.  I have not been able to find a team even make the championship game, let alone win it, that suffered that big a loss in the regular season.

That win by the Seminoles not only put them into this week's bracket, but also strengthened the cases for the tournament quality teams that beat them earlier.

New Mexico is out of the bracket this week, despite not losing.  Sometimes, what you do impacts your position.  Sometimes, what your previous opponents do impacts the quality of your profile, even if you had a good week otherwise.  And sometimes, other teams near you in the pecking order just had better weeks that you did.

BYU fell into the First Four, which if it actually happens in March, will put the committee in a bit of a predicament.  Typically, they like to put the PIG winners into Friday-Sunday sites, but BYU cannot play on Sunday.  In this bracket, that means a quick turnaround and a long-distance flight from Dayton to Portland if the Cougars win.  Of course, the same applies to BYU's opponent, Stanford, even though the Cardinal have no qualms with playing on Sunday.

You have Middle Tennessee State as the projected Sun Belt Conference Tournament champion with a 14 seed while Denver gets an at-large bid with a 13 seed. REALLY! C'mon Man! I know Middle Tennessee State should get a better seed that Denver if both of them make it to the NCAA Tournament considering the fact that Middle Tennessee State has defeated some good teams in non-conference play like Belmont, UCLA, Ole Miss, Akron, and Loyola Marymount. Let's not forget that they have been receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll for the past five weeks even though they are ranked No. 5 in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll. In addition to that, their RPI ranking is No. 54 while their Sagarin rating is No. 30 which is the highest of any team in the Sun Belt for both of those categories.

So Palm puts Illinois as a #2 seed ONLY because they are in first in the Big 10, but leaves Baylor as a #1 seed ahead of Kansas even though KANSAS is in first in the Big 12 AND destroyed Baylor head to head AND has less quality wins than Kansas? Interesting.

And Davidson did not win in Allen Fieldhouse. The game was in Kansas City at the Sprint Center. Try to put a bit more time into this, Mr. Palm.

Palm-  not saying that 26 is 33 but all in the same once you get past 25 IMO in 1993 N. Carolina lost by 26 to Wake Forest and went to win the National Title that year going 34-4, so all is not lost, just an fyi.

Perhaps not losing to a team with the nickname of Blue Hose might help..

If they keep winning in the Big East, they will be fine..  Big game coming up for them, guess we will see if they belong..

I still dont understand what all you KU fans are complaining about..There isnt another venue in college basketball like Allen Fieldhouse, but that still doesnt make an excuse for not winning in neighboring Kansas City, a city that has vastly more KU fans then measly Lawrence ever could..Are you telling me that just because the Sprint Center is located a block across the river, that you cant find enough fans to pack that building?

It's stupid to say that just because KU didnt play Davidson in Allen Fieldhouse is the reason that they lost that game, and if it was played in Allen Fieldhouse they would have won it..That isnt an excuse if you are KU, a team with 7 Big 12 championships in a row, and a record with Bill Self that will blow your mind. That isnt an excuse if you are in North Carolina playing Davidson and it sure isnt an excuse if you are playing Davidson a mere 30 miles from Lawrence..

KU lost in and there are no do-overs this season, so take it with pride knowing the loss wont hurt your Big 12 chances or post season chances..

Nothing special about Allen Fieldhouse? Your tigers, if they ever stumbled upon an honest moment, would sing a different tune. You Missouri fans are all the same, and you're all aware that the Sprint Center is in Missouri, not KANSAS. You all so desperately want that Davidson loss to be at home, but it wasn't. Regardless of what the author implies, Davidson would not have come close in the Phog, and neither will missouri.

So how many games does the second place team in the Big East have to win to get in the tournament?  UC has built a solid resume!

"BYU fell into the First Four, which if it actually happens in March, will put the committee in a bit of a predicament.  Typically, they like to put the PIG winners into Friday-Sunday sites, but BYU cannot play on Sunday."

Then, just have them play REALLY late on Sun. night ... more specfically, 12:01am Monday morning.  A lot of teams have their first practice at 12:01am, so why not?  Plus, for BYU, it'll feel like just 10:01pm anyway.  If the committee finds a need to put them in a FF game, I hope they just do so ... BYU would have to win TWICE before there could be ANY issue anyway.
